Will I need glasses after having laser eye surgery?

Published on 10th April 2012

If you are having laser eye surgery to correct your distance vision, as long as you initially had a stable prescription, it is highly unlikely that you would ever require distance glasses again.

However, you cannot 100% guarantee this (no clinic can) as it is impossible to predict any future changes.

We have treated thousands of patients over our twelve years here and only a handful of patients during that time have reported requiring spectacles again years down the line and in most instances a re-treat is possible.

Of course, once you reach your late forties, you will develop the need for wearing reading/near vision glasses as this problem is simply due to the natural aging of your eyes.

All eye surgical procedures carry a level of risk including not obtaining the desired outcome, through to varying levels of visual loss. Your eye surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits, including ones specific to your circumstances, at the time of your pre-operative consultation.
