Will I have 20/20 vision straight after the procedure?

Published on 14th November 2013

It does take a little while for your eyes to settle down after your laser eye procedure and achieve 20/20 vision. Most patients notice an overwhelming, immediate improvement whilst still in the treatment room itself.

It is fair to say that in the minutes after your laser eye surgery, your vision will be significantly better than beforehand, though not quite as good as it was with your glasses.

This is mainly due to the fact that your eyes are recovering from going through the process of the procedure and are still anaetheitsed and they will also be quite watery too, which will blur your vision slightly.

When patients come back the next day for their check-up, it is fabulous to see and hear their reactions. They are thrilled with their new eyesight and the vast majority of patients do achieve 20 20 vision at that appointment.

However, we are all different, and different people heal at different rates, so don't be discouraged if you don't have perfect vision immediately.

All eye surgical procedures carry a level of risk including not obtaining the desired outcome, through to varying levels of visual loss. Your eye surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits, including ones specific to your circumstances, at the time of your pre-operative consultation.
