What happens at a laser eye surgery consultation?

Published on 29th July 2019

Before you undergo laser eye surgery, you will be invited into our Bolton clinic for a thorough assessment and consultation. This consultation is to determine your eligibility for treatment and which type of treatment is the most suitable for your eyes. Your appointment will last an hour.

Here’s what will happen at your consultation with Visualase:

  • On arrival, one of our friendly patient advisors will ask you to complete a simple background questionnaire.
  • You will then meet with one of our experienced optometrists. They will check your prescription and take measurements of your eyes, which allows them to determine whether you are suitable for treatment. This assessment will take 30 minutes.
  • You will then meet with your opthamologist for an additional 30 minute consultation. They will perform an in-depth examination of your eyes using state of the art technology. You can find the full details of this assessment here.
  • The opthamologist will advise the best treatment option for your eyes, tailored specifically to your prescription and requirements.
  • The opthamologist examining your eyes will be the same person who will perform your laser eye surgery. Please take the time to ask any questions you have and discuss your options for treatment.
  • You can then discuss timescales and dates for your treatment if you do choose to go ahead with surgery.

There will be no pressure at all for you to make a decision on whether you would like to go ahead with treatment.

The purpose of your assessment and consultation is purely to determine your suitability so you can make an informed decision and there is no obligation for you to go ahead with any treatment - the choice is entirely yours.

If you are considering laser eye surgery and would like to meet with an opthamologist to assess your suitability and find out which treatment would be best for you, book your consultation today by calling Visualase on 01204 387467 or completing our contact form here.

All eye surgical procedures carry a level of risk including not obtaining the desired outcome, through to varying levels of visual loss. Your eye surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits, including ones specific to your circumstances, at the time of your pre-operative consultation.
