I've been told that my prescription is too high to have laser treatment - is there any alternative?

Published on 11th July 2012

Unfortunately, not everyone is suitable for laser eye correction, and one of the reasons can be that your prescription is simply outside the treatable range. For short sight we can treat up to -10.00D and for long sight we can treat up to +6.00D.

If you are outside of this treatable range and are over the age of 50, then a procedure called Clear Lens Exchange is a possible alternative.

This treatment is very similar to a cataract operation whereby your natural lens inside your eye is replaced by an artificial one. For further information on this procedure, please call the clinic on (01204) 387467.

All eye surgical procedures carry a level of risk including not obtaining the desired outcome, through to varying levels of visual loss. Your eye surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits, including ones specific to your circumstances, at the time of your pre-operative consultation.
