How long after laser eye surgery do your eyes stay bloodshot?

Published on 12th January 2012

Your eyes may be slightly bloodshot after undergoing laser eye correction. This can vary from patient to patient as we are all individual.

In the main though, most patients undergoing LASIK experience a slightly uncomfortable gritty sensation that can last anywhere between a couple of hours though to six hours immediately after treatment.

It is very unusual to see a patient with red / bloodshot eyes on their day one post operative check up.

All eye surgical procedures carry a level of risk including not obtaining the desired outcome, through to varying levels of visual loss. Your eye surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits, including ones specific to your circumstances, at the time of your pre-operative consultation.
