What Our Clients Say

What to expect from LASIK

Healing

The healing response varies from person to person and higher prescriptions will need to heal more after treatment. Therefore, whilst most people with low refractive errors achieve 6/6 (normal vision) after treatment, fewer people with high refractive errors do. It is, however, unusual not to achieve the 6/12 driving standard after treatment.

Strangely enough it is often the patients with the highest prescription who are the happiest with their results since their vision has undergone the most dramatic improvement.

Recovery

There is usually a very rapid recovery of vision after LASIK and most people will see well within a day or two. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are supplied to assist this recovery.

Enhancement

Most people attain the clear vision they hoped for after one treatment. If, however, the results need to be fine tuned, a second treatment can be performed. This is called an enhancement and at Visualase we offer this free of charge.

Common reactions

  • Some people become very excited about their new vision and feel as if they have been reborn or have started a new chapter in their life.

  • Others forget they no longer wear glasses and reach up to adjust them.

  • Contact lens wearers may wake up, and seeing clearly, think that they forgot to remove their lenses.

  • Some people feel momentarily sad at losing their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. This one is quite rare!
