More About CK

What if you could reduce your dependence on reading glasses – those unwelcome reminders that age is catching up with you?

What if you could enjoy your morning paper without squinting?

Read a menu without difficulty?

Even work on the computer without headaches?

What if there was a procedure to correct your vision that didn’t involve cutting or a laser?

Today, the question isn’t “what if?” Today the answer is CK – a new vision procedure that can help decrease your dependence on glasses to see things close up.

Conductive Keratoplasty is the only procedure designed for long-sightedness that uses radiowave energy instead of a laser to correct your vision.

Approved by the FDA in 2002 after five years of successful clinical trials in the US and abroad, CK has proven to be safe, effective alternative to laser surgery.

Who can have CK?

Conductive Keratoplasty is intended for people who have difficulties with near vision. CK is not intended for people with short-sightedness (myopia). All patients considering vision correction should have a free assessment at our clinic to determine if they are a suitable candidate for CK.

Candidates for CK must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 40 years of age or older

  • Require correction between +0.75 and +3.00 dioptres

  • Not have had any significant changes in vision for one year

  • Not have any chronic eye disorders

  • Not be pregnant or nursing

  • Not have any chronic illness or disease

How does CK work?

CK uses a pen-shaped instrument with a cool tip as a thin as a human hair. After application of a topical anaesthetic (eye drops), our surgeon Mr Heaven (Lens-Exchange), will apply radiowave energy in a circular pattern. This pattern is around the periphery of the cornea and minimizes interference with your line of sight. The procedure is done in our state of the art clinic. You are here for about one hour on treatment day. The CK procedure itself takes approximately five minutes.

CK is considered painless. Once finished, you don’t have to wear a patch and can usually return to work within 48 hours. Vision continues to improve during the first month.
