Yahoo Answers: Question on Laser Eye Surgery

Published: 27th Oct 2011

The question asked on Yahoo Answers was:
Laser eye surgery /Ultralase eye surgery?

Vision correction from Ultralase. i my daughter to get laser eye surgery. she is 14 years old and need to know more. any one know any thing will be helpful as i don't know nothing about it.

and

laser eye correction. The reason being is that at such a young eye, the eyes are still changing. The best results, post treatment, are when the refractive error is stable.

The youngest patient we would consider would be 18, but even then, they would have to demonstrate at least two years of unchanged prescription. It really isn't in the long term best interest of the patient to treat them too young if their prescription is still deteriorating as if they proceeded to treatment they could end up back in glasses again in a year or so as more prescription develops.

My advice is to stick with the same optician (if appropriate) so you can build up a detailed history of your prescriptions which will be very beneficial when seeking the advice from an ophthalmologist over your suitability once the patient is a little bit older. The more history you can demonstrate, then the better the opinion can be formed to determine the stability of the prescription.
