Lasik Eye Surgery Is Safe and Effective

Published: 4th Oct 2010

Often, people who are good candidates for Lasik eye surgery have some concerns about the procedure. Obviously, the concept of having somebody aim a laser directly at your eye can be a little unnerving for some people. The truth of the matter is that the procedure is very safe and has been consistently improved over the years.

Something that many people are aware of is the fact that they will be conscious during this kind of procedure for laser eye correction. There is a good reason why people can stay conscious and that is because there is very little pain or discomfort associated with having laser eye surgery done. The worst that most people will experience is slight discomfort.

For those who have seen the procedure done on video, it seems like it is going to be uncomfortable as the laser is fired at the eye in order to reshape the cornea. The surgeon will actually administer drops so you will not see the laser and it is not the kind of laser that you see in comic books or cartoons. When you are having the laser eye surgery procedure done, all you hear is a number of clicks and these are intermittent pulses that are emitted by the laser in order to correct your vision.

Once you get over the concerns that you have about the safety of laser vision correction, you will start to see all the benefits. The procedure is completed very quickly and in most cases takes only a few minutes. Some people may be required to go back for follow-up appointment a few years down the road but this is actually quite rare.

If you consider how safe the Lasik eye surgery procedure is and how quickly it can be accomplished, you will see that it is actually preferable for most people than wearing eyeglasses and contact lenses. With eyeglasses, there is a possibility that they can be shattered and with contact lenses, irritation and more severe problems can occur because the eye does not get a sufficient amount of oxygen that it needs.

Visualase laser eye clinic is based in Bolton, near Manchester, UK.
