There is much debate amongst eye surgeons about whether Intralase or Microkeratome is best for creating the corneal flap required in the LASIK procedure.

In traditional LASIK, a Microkeratome is used to cut a thin hinged flap and in Intralase a femtosecond laser is used instead. Many times a surgeon simply prefers one method of surgery over the other.

It's a bit like asking someone whether they prefer a Mercedes rather than a BMW - you will get conflicting answers depending on what your own personal preference is. There are potential complications creating corneal flaps with both the Microkeratome method and with the Intralase method and patients should know that there are advantages and disadvantages with both.

Most surgeons will agree however, that the skill and experience of the surgeon performing your treatment has as much to do with the outcome of your surgery rather than the actual tool used.
