Did You Know That You Have Options When It Comes To Laser Eye Surgery?

Published: 9th Mar 2010

If you ask people that have had Lasik eye surgery to correct vision problems, you will probably hear similar feedback from them. It is something that can improve the quality of your life and provide you with significantly better vision. In most cases, people are able to rid themselves of eyeglasses or contact lenses that are inconvenient and cumbersome.

What many people do not know is that there have been technological advancements in the area of laser vision correction and you have options when it comes to laser eye treatment. One of the most notable changes is that you can now have the corneal flap created with a laser instead of the more traditional instrument, a microkeratome. This femtosecond laser is different than the one that is used to shape the cornea during surgery. It may cause the procedure to cost more, but it is preferable for many people.

You can choose to have one eye or both eyes operated on in a single session. Some people that have concerns about the laser eye surgery may choose to have one eye done at a time and then return for the second eye. For most people, it is more convenient to have both eyes completed at the same time as recovery is fairly quick and the vast majority of patients find that it is painless with only mild discomfort experienced in some cases.

There are even options available when it comes to payment. You can shop around for different ophthalmologists that charge depending on their experience and the kind of technology that they are using. Obviously, you don't want to try so hard to save money that you end up getting an inferior procedure, but there are certainly choices that you can make. You may also want to talk to the clinic about the availability of different financing options that will enable you to afford a better ophthalmologist that is using the latest technology.

If you think that you might be a candidate for laser eye surgery, take the time to go in for consultation. Ask plenty of questions about the experience of the person doing the surgery and the kind of technology that they will use.
