Consider the Benefits of Laser Eye Surgery

Published: 10th Nov 2010

Considering Lasik eye surgery?
If you are currently using prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses then you have probably considered Lasik eye surgery at some point. There are different reasons why people have not undergone the treatment and these may include fear of side effects or having been turned down by an ophthalmologist for various reasons.

Are you eligible for eye surgery?
If you think you might be eligible for laser vision correction then it is highly advisable to look into it. It is something that can change your life and if you are held back by fears about possible outcomes, look into the statistics and the procedures involved and you will likely be much more comfortable about going in for a laser eye treatment.

What are the complications?
In terms of the complications due to laser eye surgery, these only occur in about 3% of patients that undergo that treatment. The majority of complications are very mild and may include the feeling that a foreign body is in the eye or halos that are seen around bright objects at night. Most of these are short term effects and will go away in a few days or weeks. In terms of more serious complications, these are only present in 1% of the cases of laser eye surgery.

Benefits of Lasik eye surgery
Many people are not fully aware of all of the benefits until they have actually had a Lasik eye surgery treatment. It is often only a few hours until you start to see quite clearly and most people are ecstatic enough at this point to make the procedure worthwhile. It's not until later that they discover all of the different activities that they can undertake without being concerned about losing eyeglasses or contact lenses. Things like swimming or extreme sports may now become possible for them when they might not have been before.

It is common for people to experience increased confidence following laser vision correction surgery. It not only has to do with their appearance, but the ability to engage in different activities without concern. For some people, it may even allow them to choose a job that they would not normally have been able to perform.
