Are you a candidate for laser eye surgery?
Whether you have had vision problems that have only come up in the past few years or you have spent a long time struggling with your vision, you might be a good candidate for Lasik eye surgery. Not everybody has this option available to them, but if you do it is something that is worth investigating because it can truly change your life.

Is your vision stable?
One of the first questions that you will be asked by an ophthalmologist when you go to see them is whether or not your prescription has been stable for a period of at least one year. Before laser eye surgery is conducted, the prescription must stabilize and the eyes must be mature. That is why this kind of procedure is generally not done on anybody under the age of 18 except in extreme circumstances.

What's your medical history?
You might be surprised that before getting laser vision correction, you'll be asked questions about your medical history. People that have diabetes must have the disease under control before they can have laser eye surgery. There are also certain autoimmune conditions like muscular dystrophy, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis that will make you ineligible for Lasik eye surgery. You may also be turned down if you have corneal scarring.

If you are a candidate for a laser eye treatment, then it is something you should discuss with your ophthalmologist. It is particularly beneficial for those people that have difficulty wearing contact lenses. In most cases, people who undergo the treatment will find that they do not have to wear glasses or contact lenses at all. If people develop presbyopia with age, this cannot be corrected with laser eye surgery and they may have to use reading glasses. Even so, this is far more preferable to most people than having to wear lenses or eyeglasses all the time.

If you want to be able to enjoy physical activity without worrying about breaking a pair of glasses or losing a contact lens then Lasik eye surgery is probably the best option for you. It is probably more affordable than you think and there are even financing plans available at many clinics that will help you budget for it.
