Are You Curious About Laser Eye Surgery?

Published: 20th Jul 2010

If you gain some knowledge about it, this will serve to allay the fears that you have about the potential for these problems. First of all, the procedure is done very quickly and is completed on an outpatient basis. After an initial consultation, you usually only have to go in for one day to have the procedure done and it actually only takes a few minutes to complete. During this time, you are likely to experience some pressure on the eye as the procedure begins but few people would report experiencing any kind of pain.

You should discuss the process with your potential surgeon before you get started and let them know about any concerns that you might have. They will be able to answer questions about what you're going to feel and experience during the procedure. They can also give you a mild sedative if you are particularly anxious about it.

In terms of side effects, there are very few. It is possible for some people to experience a slight 'halo' effect when viewing bright objects at night but this is also rare. Given all of the benefits that laser eye surgery can give you, it has very few potential side effects and they are generally quite mild.

Some people are worried about the fact that a laser will be used to reshape the cornea of the eye in order to correct vision. This is actually a very precise procedure that is done and the excimer laser that is used is extremely accurate. They can now even adjust for small movements of the eye to make sure that the procedure is done effectively. When you notice in a few hours how clear your vision is, you will soon forget about any mild discomfort that you felt or any of the worries that you had prior to the procedure.
